AED Program

Main Content

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that can be used to treat a person whose heart has suddenly stopped working; a condition called cardiac arrest. Having an AED close by can mean the difference between life and death when every second counts.

AEDs are located in most buildings on campus. To view locations visit TCU's interactive map. Under "Health, Wellness and Safety," select the box "AED (Defibrillators)." All AEDs include instructions on when and how to use them. Training on proper use is recommended; however, individuals with no training can use the device to reset the heartbeat of a person who has sudden cardiac arrest.

Training
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office coordinates the installation, maintenance, and associated training for the AEDs located in campus buildings and facilities. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses are also available.

Assignment of online safety courses is overseen by EHS and accessible through the online HSI/SafetySkills Learning Management System. A TCU email address and ID is required for access. Currently, only non-certification CPR courses are offered online. For information on CPR certification, in-person training classes, or AEDs, please contact EHS at safety@tcu.edu or at 817-257-7220.
